2019 was a really busy year for me, filled with wonderful moments. It was a privilege to meet 46 new babies with their mums and dads, big brothers and sisters and 34 families for cake smashes, family or Christmas photography experiences.
The first few days and weeks of life with a newborn is very special, and also demanding for new parents. It has been my pleasure to welcome so many of you to the studio at this time, giving you a chance to reflect on your beautiful new arrival whilst I capture those memories you will treasure forever.
Welcoming Familiar Faces
Every family I meet is special, but I particularly enjoy meeting toddlers who I first met as tiny newborn babies and who return with their new baby sibling. This year I welcomed six families back to the studio with siblings that I first met as a newborn, which is a real privilege. In particular, we welcomed Elsie back to the studio. She was one of the first precious newborns that I met (professionally speaking!), and in February she brought baby brother, Jacob, along with mummy and Nanny. The images we captured have pride of place in their home, and we were delighted with the results.
I am the proud winner of not one but SIX photography awards this year. I started the year with a Highly Commended award in the Cherubs National Monthly competition. This was for one of my favourite images capturing dad and newborn. Ray Lowe Hon FMPA, Chairman and CEO of the Master Photographer’s Association, said that this image was ‘a beautiful, warm, cosy picture that has creativity written all over it’. Wow!
I also won a Merit in the regional Master Photographers Association awards. With such a high standard of entries, this is no easy task and one I am very proud of! To top it off, I’ve just ended the year with a Highly Commended from the Master Photographer Association’s monthly competition. The judge commented that this is ‘beautiful imagery’ from ‘an exquisite newborn photographer’. Awards like this mean so much. I always want to ensure that I capture the highest quality images for my clients, which is part of why I started the business. Awards like these confirm that I am succeeding!
Alongside awards for photography, I was also delighted to win a Merit in the Best Customer Experience category at the Master Photographers Association National Awards. I am so proud of this award as I aim to make sure all my wonderful clients capture once-in-a-lifetime images to treasure forever, but I also want them to have a wonderful experience. I want to create an experience that they can remember every time they look at their precious artwork. My aim is to pamper new mums and dads and help them to relax and enjoy their time in the studio.
Christmas Photography Experiences
In November I offered my first ever Christmas experiences. Over 2 very busy weekends in November I welcomed 13 families to the studio to capture some fun Christmas portraits. Everyone got into the spirit, wearing a wonderful collection of Christmas pyjamas, jumpers and festive headgear! I know many of the images of our clients are wrapped up and ready for the big day as Christmas gifts to various family members.
I always ask clients if they would be happy to leave a review, and lots of you do – thank you, it means the world! I am very proud of having over 130 five star reviews on Facebook. I know that all these lovely comments help reassure new mums and dads that they are in good hands when they book. This is one of my favourite reviews of this year:
“From our maternity shoot to viewing our photos, Sarah gave us nothing but an amazing experience. Her attention to detail is incredible and made us all feel so welcome and comfortable. We absolutely loved the whole experience and the photos of bump and baby are adorable which we now have to cherish for life. I highly recommend having this done as it is true, you forget pregnancy and forget how small your little ones were once! Thank you again Sarah.”
Behind the scenes, we have invested in a new website, which makes it easier for new clients to find out more, view my portfolio images and book their experience. We have also added new props, clothes and blankets to our collection, meaning every client has a wonderful array of colour palettes to choose from as well as image styles, all of which are discussed in a call just before their session.
What’s New for 2020?
This year, I will be investing more time in developing my technical skills, and I will be preparing my gallery for my Associate of the Master Photographers Association – this is the second-highest level of qualification in the association and is not easy to achieve. Of course, I will also be welcoming lots more new parents to the studio with their precious newborn babies to capture very special, once-in-a-lifetime images.
All that is left to say I want to say thank you to all of my lovely clients. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you all to the studio in 2019. I hope 2020 is full of health, happiness and joy in your family. I hope to see many of you back in the studio again either with siblings or celebrating 1st Birthdays.
